When we approach our lives with loving-kindness

do we light up the world, as the Affirmative

Thought below suggests?

 

I think we do, and we also light up our lives.

But let’s be honest, it takes a great deal of effort,

at times, to focus our ego-driven minds in this

direction.

 

This is possibly the reason the Kabbalists and

Buddhists have made loving-kindness

the centerpiece of enlightenment.

 

Let us not forget Christianity, which is based

on the love and kindness focus of Jesus.

                  

LIGHT UP THE WORLD

 

Light up the world today with your love,

                  kindness, and compassion; 

  the world will love you back tenfold

                  as you open up the loving essence

     of the universe.

 

Light up the world today with simple

                  acts of kindness and compassion,

   showing the universe, and all you meet,

                  your divine nature, full of loving-kindness.

 

Light up the world today by transforming

                  your conflicts with others using

a new mindset based on love and caring.

                  Love your problems, and by doing so,

     dissolve your problems.

 

Light up the world today with love, compassion,

                  and kindness for yourself –

   fully encouraging and supporting your actions,

            allowing yourself to become your

     authentic self.

In his masterpiece The Perennial Philosophy, Aldous

Huxley makes a statement that seems to succinctly

state the current spiritual condition of humankind

for me:

 

It is because we don't know Who we are, because

we are unaware that the Kingdom of Heaven is

within us, that we behave in the generally silly,

often insane, the sometimes criminal ways that

are so characteristically human. We are saved,

we are liberated and enlightened,  by perceiving

the hitherto unperceived good that is already

within us, by returning to our eternal Ground

and remaining where, without knowing it,

we have always been.

 

Every day we can take a  small but vital step

towards opening the door to our heaven on earth

by ensuring we focus on experiencing the peace,

love, joy, and happiness that surrounds us, waiting

for our attention.

 

Here is an Affirmative Thought to remind us. 

 

SIMPLE PLEASURES

 

Today let us realize the multitude

of possibilities to experience

peace, love, joy and happiness

from the simple pleasures of life –

from the small moments –

from the tender gestures –

from this opportunity for living.

 

Today let us embrace our own

potential for full and complete

living, where we embrace our own

becoming – connect with our true

purpose, allowing ourselves to live

without constraints or conditions.

 

Today let us shake off the malaise –

clearing our minds of any fears,

doubts, or worries and, step with

LOVE IS THE GATEWAY 

 

Love is the gateway to enlightenment - 

love is the only way to God –

love is the power of all connection –

it is the seeing of the divine in all life –

all existence – love is the essence of God

and without love enlightenment is only

a bright light without passion, without joy,

without substance.

 

Love requires that the ego be left at the gate –

personal desire stripped away – the shedding

of past and future, leaving only a bursting

emotion of caring, kindness, respect, and

admiration – a realization of oneness –

seeing your face in every face, it is the

desire to worship the perfection of life –

to understand the essential connection.

 

Love of child, family, community, or world

emanates from an overwhelming desire to

nurture, to protect, to develop, to flourish,

to breathe life into all you come in contact

with – it is truly understanding the nature

of God and God’s love for all creation.

To love like God is to truly connect with God.

 

Love is ingrained and sewn into every cell

of your being – move towards the light and you

will find yourself worthy of love;

humankind worthy and in need of love, 

and eventually, see through the loving eyes

of God – a force of love – boundless – infinite –

without limit overflowing with love for all.

 

The light you will see in the light of pure

God love radiating to all from all.

See the love, feel the love, be the love.

THIS IS A REPOST OF ONE OF MY

FAVORITE VALENTINE'S DAY NOTES

FROM 2.14.2013

  

I have come to realize that true love is not 

superficial, true love enables us to love

through the imperfections, through the

flaws and see the true divine perfection 

we each possess within. 

  

Ann, my wife, has taught me more about

love than any guru or meditation guidance 

I have ever encountered.  I often bragged

that I had never had an operation or even

really been in the hospital for any major

issue.

 

Since 2007, I have had four major surgeries,

starting with a reconstruction of my cervical

spine, then the resection of a pituitary brain 

tumor followed up with the reconstruction

of my lumbar spine, then a quadruple bypass

to top it off a year later.

 

Ann has waited through over thirty plus

hours of surgery, countless hours in intensive

care, helping me recuperate and live on

from each. And although I now walk like a

combination of Groucho Marx and Frankenstein,

while hearing just a bit better than the elder

Beethoven, I am still loved.

  

So I wrote this note for Ann this Valentine's

Day morning. I hope it also helps you

acknowledge and honor all those who have

loved you through, and continue to love you,

warts and all: spouses, lovers, partners,

friends, parents, kids, and caregivers who

continue to see the perfect you through the

imperfections of this life. 

 

FOR LOVING ME

 

Thank you for loving me through times

of fear, concern, and struggle – always

at my side to console, to support, to carry

me, to find a way to calm my trembling

spirit simply by taking my hand and

forging onward.

 

Thank you for loving me, even when

I fail to love myself, as you gently hold

a mirror to my true nature so I can see

the truth of who I truly am and what

I have to offer – for showing me, the me

you love, so I understand my worth, my value.

 

Thank you for loving me, and picking

up my tired soul so I can see the life

left to live; and by grasping your eternal

strength, your perpetual hope, forge on

towards better days, to thrive and flourish

again, always safe within your loving gaze.

Let us find our good within this day –

a positive gesture, a child’s glee,

a moment of sweet remembrance,

an expression of gratitude – knowing

at the heart of our existence is the genuine

flow of divine love.

 

Let us be an active agent of good in this

day, always ready and able to extend

our love to make this life an adventure,

better, brighter, more appealing for

those we encounter along the way –

an accelerator of good.

 

Let us understand fully that with each

breath, every step, the force of good

is the essence of all life – accepting

our responsibility to protect it, nourish

it, grow it, and harvest it in all we do –

being  a multiplier of good in the world

and in this day.

FOR WHAT WE WISH TO CHANGE

 

Realize all we see, touch, experience,

or do, represents the culmination of our

desires made manifest, made tangible,

given form, by our creative souls - so this

life, our life now – is a vision of life

propelled into being by our heartfelt

dreams, called forth by our prayers.

 

For all we love about our current lives,

let us affirm it, establish its continued

existence - for what we wish to change,

to alter, or to refashion – let us love

it even more, and from this base

of active love, work to recreate it

into new form, revised, refreshed –

better aligned with our current

dreams.

 

Today let us fully understand -

we need to love what we have,

in order to get what we want!

For nothing springs from discord

or distaste – no seed grows in a

barren garden, so with love as  the

soil and water of full creation –

align today through love and watch

the sprouts of your desire appear,

thrive, and complete your garden.

THESE DAYS AFTER CHRISTMAS –

THE CHRIST MEME

 

Christmas is a reminder that we are all

capable of a beingness greater than we

often attempt to harness in our day-to-day

lives. In that Bethlehem manger was born

an idea so revolutionary that many of us

continue to struggle with it today.

 

For me, at least, it makes perfect sense that

a Universal God Consciousness would work to  

effect change by altering our attitudes, our

perspectives, our basic logic using a set of

ideas, although often appearing absurd,

remain uniquely contagious and still innately

appealing.

 

Christmas is an annual reminder that we,

as a humanity, are capable of more, that we

are the hands and feet of God on earth, quite

capable of grasping our inner divine nature

for the good of all existence: and with faith,

belief, and focused attention, we are able

to cocreate our lives, as well as our communal

destiny, with God.

 

The ultimate good I envision from Christmas,

is our overall continual evolution as a species,

no longer at war with ourselves and each other,

but Christ-like in key respects, realizing our unity,

our common origin, and ancestry – living with

tenderness and love.

 

As we throw away the wrapping paper, discarded

boxes, and the leftovers from our annual holiday

feast – let us take some time to unravel the truth

of  this newborn’s message - peace on earth with

goodwill towards men.

profound idea.

 

THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS  

 

Let us all reflect on, and fully

            comprehend, the true meaning

 of Christmas – the birth of a

            profound idea in the infinite

            simply that our capacity to love

is the key to finding heaven on earth.

 

Let us reflect, this Christmas, on

            a simple man who understood

the key to salvation – love –

            and who had the strength

and compassion to face the

            darkness of the world

to bring true light to all of us.

The gift of love from God is ours

today and every day we live, we flourish,

we look beyond the ordinary to see

the extraordinary – every day we feel

the tender touch of grace – the magic

moving us steadily towards our greater

good.

 

Let us cherish this gift, taking it in fully,

then sharing its power with all we

encounter –  touching lives as our lives

have been so splendidly touched –

spreading the love and kindness

wherever we go – to whomever

we encounter.

 

This holiday season let us follow

the gentle and wondrous example of

one who loved with so much strength,

The note below titled Pilot Light is one of my

favorite Holiday messages. Perhaps, the true

meaning of enlightenment is not experiencing

“the light,” but instead, being the light itself.

Hopefully, this holiday season will find our lights,

both individually and collectively, shining bright.

 

THE PILOT LIGHT

 

Within every heart resides a flame -

a beacon conveying the essence of the

life it lights – a pilot light of passionate

striving – igniting with full vigor when

the path to our destined destination

finds our seeking souls - there and then

illuminating the world.

 

Perhaps, the very message of this festive

holiday season - centered on celebrating

the brightest light ever to exist - even now,

continuing to offer illumination in this often 

too dim world - a light reminding us of our 

true mission, to join the enlightened magic

by pursuing the very human nature needed 

to embolden our own leaping flames.

 

So let us not mistake the "whole" in the

true meaning of holy - reminding each

of us of our true intent - to share our

light with like-minded souls - and by

doing so, fan the flames of a brighter

Let us strive to be our own best friend

today, reaching out to ourselves with

a sense of compassion, cheering ourselves

on when we excel or persevere under difficult

conditions, kindly reminding ourselves

of our potential when we do not.

 

Like a friend, let us avoid pushing ourselves

when we are tired or stressed, realizing our

mental, physical, and spiritual balance hinges

on finding a sensible approach to all we feel

we must accomplish.

 

So let us avoid negative, critical, or harsh

self-talk, and instead, like a caring friend,

let us be benevolent in our own self-appraisal,

reaching out to encourage, motivate, and

invigorate ourselves through positive
