commonality - noun: the state of sharing
features or attributes.
In our modern, often egocentric and ethnocentric
times, it is hard to see the common existence
that we all truly do share. We, as individuals, as
communities, as ethnic groups, as religions,
and as nations have found it easy to promote
the intrinsic chauvinism of whatever group,
or faction, we consider ours.
Yet, the inspired message I receive, like the
one here offered, is always clear - that enlightened,
positive spiritual existence requires that we
understand our role as part of the commonality
of all existence. That our contribution, made
daily through our creative labor, whatever
the form helps stoke the hearth of evolving
life and consciousness.
So may this note serve as a reminder
today of this commonality, and how our
lives depend on this common undertaking
we call life.
COMMONALITY
Today let us strive to open our hearts,
to share our feelings, to express our
deepest longings, and by doing so
reach a place of commonality, where
we each exist, one within the other,
overlapping souls in harmonic unison.
As we open our hearts, let us speak,
write, play, sing, build, create, inspire,
plant - all contributing to this symphony
of an evolving existence - no one voice
more earnest or essential than the
other - all equal but distinct.
So let our labor be a gift of love today,
our totem, our tithe, our tangible
offering to this life so enormous, so
momentous, warming our spirits from
the sparks of its mighty becoming,
knowing within this common undertaking,
our life, all life, is perpetuated.
